The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is inviting applications for an Internship position within the Economic Affairs Job Family. This opportunity, categorized at the I-1 level, is based in Addis Ababa and is designed for highly qualified, motivated individuals who wish to gain direct experience with the work of the United Nations in promoting sustainable development and economic cooperation across the African continent.
Role Overview
The Intern will be placed within a relevant section of the Economic Commission for Africa and will support ongoing research, analysis, and programmatic work related to African economic development. The role provides exposure to multilateral processes, policy formulation, and the execution of regional development programs.

Requirements and Qualifications
Category and Level: Internship, I-1
Core Qualifications (Standard UN Internship Requirement):
👉 Enrollment in a graduate program (Master’s or Ph.D.) or in the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s level).
👉 OR, possession of a degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) and, if selected, commencement of the internship must be no later than one year after graduation.
👉 Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
👉 Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Specific Skills: 👉 Fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of another UN official language, particularly French, is desirable.
👉 Proficiency in standard computer software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
