FHI 360, a global human development organization, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of WASH Assistant HP (Hygiene Promotion) to support its integrated humanitarian response project in Ethiopia. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the WASH Officer to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of project targets, with a particular focus on sanitation and environmental health interventions in conflict-affected areas.
Role Overview
The WASH Assistant is responsible for providing technical support and guidance on sanitation and hygiene promotion activities, ensuring that all program implementation aligns with appropriate international and national standards. This role involves significant field-level monitoring, reporting, and community liaison.
Key Responsibilities
➠ Working directly with the WASH Officer to achieve project objectives and targets.
➠ Supporting the program team in collecting primary data from operational sites using standard instruments for assessments and surveys.
➠ Representing FHI 360 at the community level and maintaining relationships with key community figures and local stakeholders.
➠ Following up on the routine implementation of planned project activities as guided by the WASH Officer.
➠ Ensuring regular monitoring of project indicators and targets using established checklists.
➠ Preparing and providing specific field progress reports on programmatic matters.
➠ Working closely with targeted health facilities and communities to collect facility-level information required by the WASH Coordinator and Officer.
➠ Handling any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Required and Desired Qualifications
Essential Requirements: 👉 At least 2–3 years of national work experience in an NGO setting, specifically on primary health care, nutrition, WASH, or other humanitarian projects.
👉 Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and managing WASH programs with a focus on public health promotion in humanitarian settings.
👉 Sound understanding of the socio-economic and political situation in the operational areas (Oromia/Amhara).
👉 Experience representing the employer at relevant platforms and liaising with key stakeholders.
👉 Willingness to travel frequently and for extended periods to FHI 360 operational locations.
👉 Fluent in the local language (Afan Oromo) and excellent in English.
Desirable Qualifications: 👉 Experience conducting rapid needs assessments and baseline assessments. 👉 Good understanding of the UN Cluster System and international/national minimum standards of services in humanitarian settings.
👉 Knowledge and practical experience regarding different public health promotion approaches and national strategies for sector utilization.
